Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) launched its first electric passenger locomotive in Siliguri on February 2, 2024. It was manufactured at Banaras Locomotive Works with an investment of Rs 1,150 million. It will cover shorter routes which includes Siliguri-New Jalpaiguri-Jalpaiguri and Siliguri-Malda. The zone has a total of 13 electric locomotives along with 212 diesel locomotives.
