The MoRTH aims to achieve a milestone by constructing around 13,813 km of highways in the 2023-24.The ministry’s goal is to eliminate less than two-lane national highways by 2027-28.
In March 2012, the total length of such highways stood at 25,517 km (30.1 per cent of the total length), which has since decreased to 14,350 km (9.8 per cent of the total length).
Notably, the ministry has already completed 6,216 km of national highways by December 2023, surpassing the 5,774 km constructed during the same period last year.
