MCZMA grants clearance for Vadhavan Satellite Port Project in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) granted clearance for the Vadhavan Satellite Port Project (Dahanu/Wadhwan Port) on February 5, 2024. However, the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is awaited. The project involves the development of an all-weather port at Vadhavan, 140 km north of Mumbai in Maharashtra. The port will be developed as a landlord port. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be formed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) as the lead partner with equity participation of 74 per cent and Maharashtra Maritime Board with 26 per cent of equity to implement the project. The capacity and estimated cost of the project are 254 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) including 9.87 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and Rs 762.2 billion respectively.
