Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways launches digital modules

On February 1, 2024, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways launched two digital modules within the Sagar Setu (national logistics portal-marine) platform. These include the maritime single window (MSW) and the mercantile maritime department (MMD).
The MSW module is a digital platform that enables the electronic submission, processing, and exchange of maritime-related information and documents between government authorities, port operators, and stakeholders involved in international maritime trade. It facilitates the online submission of documents related to the arrival, stay, and departure of ships, allowing for easy and faster approval by various authorities, including ports, immigration, and customs.
The MMD module is a digital platform with two core functionalities. The modules’ vessel detention function allows efficient monitoring of the status of ships at ports, facilitating the planning of vessel inspections. Another feature of the MMD module is the vessel release functionality, which is used to update the release status of the vessel, signalling its readiness to depart the port. Similar to the detention process, notifications of vessel releases are sent to ports, customs, and immigration.
