Madurai railway division is expected to achieve 100 per cent electrification by March 2024 excluding the 53 km stretch between Ramanathapuram and Rameswaram. During 2023-24, a total of 16.75 km of tracks have been electrified and work is in progress towards 85 per cent electrification of the total 1,295 km. Besides, the division registered freight traffic and passenger traffic of 2.5 mt and 8.79 mt respectively, during April-December 2023.
