Indian major ports handles 604.76 mt of cargo traffic during April-December period of 2023-24

During April-December FY 2024, the Indian major ports handled 604.76 million tonnes (mt) of cargo traffic, compared to 576.11 mt in the corresponding period of FY 2023, registering a growth of 5.0 per cent. Port-wise, the Paradip Port handled the maximum cargo at 105.52 mt during April-December FY 2024 with a share of 17.4 per cent followed by Deendayal Port (16.3 per cent) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (10.6 per cent). The overseas cargo handled at the major ports increased by 5.5 per cent from 443.87 mt during April-December FY 2023 to 468.12 mt during April-December FY 2024. Meanwhile, the coastal cargo handled at the major ports increased by 3.3 per cent from 132.24 mt during April-December FY 2023 to 136.64 mt during April-December FY 2024.
