Foundation stone laid for Meerut STP and I&D project

The central government laid the foundation stone for the Meerut sewage treatment plant (STP) and interception and diversion (I&D) project in Uttar Pradesh on January 18, 2024. The scope of the project includes the construction of an STP of total capacity of 220 mld, developing I&D structures, I&D network laying, sewage pumping stations including operation and maintenance for 15 years, etc. The project aims to reduce sewage pollution in the Kali River. There will be no discharge of untreated sewage water from Meerut city into Kali river (east) after the completion of the project. The project is being carried out on a hybrid annuity mode at an estimated cost of Rs 3.7 billion under NMCG. The work is likely to be completed by December 2026.
