TBM S-639B commissioned under Package KNPCC-06 of Kanpur Metro Phase I

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S-639B has been commissioned under Package KNPCC-06 of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project-Phase I. The TBM was provided by Herrenknecht. The package involves design and construction of tunnel through TBM, cut and cover tunnel, underground ramp from Kanpur Central end of Nayaganj station to elevated ramp after Transport Nagar and three underground metro stations viz. Kanpur Central, Jhakarkatti and Transport Nagar including architectural finishes, electrical and mechanical (E&M), tunnel ventilation system (TVS), environmental control system (ECS) etc. on IIT-Naubasta via Jhakarkati bus terminal corridor (corridor 1). The joint venture (JV) of Afcons Infrastructure Limited and Sam India Builtwell Private Limited were awarded the contract for the same.
Besides, the track work for up-line on 1 km tunnel under Bada Chauraha – Nayagunj stretch has been completed. Track laying works on the stretch are likely to commence soon. The Kanpur metro project involves development of 33 km long metro rail system in Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.76 billion.
