On January 11, 2024, the APM Terminals signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 200 billion with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) for the development of a new container terminal at the Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra. The port is located on the west coast at about 150 kms north of Mumbai. With a natural draft of about 20 metres, the port will be able to cater to the larger container vessels of 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The project is being implemented through a special purpose vehicle between JNPA and Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), which will develop and construct the primary infrastructure.
