IR is likely to procure 50 Amrit Bharat trains at an investment of Rs 20 billion. The rail coaches will be manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, and Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. The manufacturing hub for these trains will be Chittaranjan Locomotive Works in West Bengal. These trains operate via a push-and-pull mechanism, which requires the addition of locomotives at both ends of a train. This results in improved performance in the form of higher acceleration and an improved braking system.
