IWAI and Amazon signs MoU to boost cargo movement

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Amazon Seller Ser­vi­ces Private Limited (Amazon) have signed an MoU to boost cargo movement and transportation of customer shipments and products via inland waterways using the Ganga river (National Waterway [NW] 1). This MoU will result in increasing efficiency and sustainability of water transport to op­timise logistics, diminish the environmental footprint, and promote economic development. The Sagarmala Programme includes 113 projects worth Rs 70.3 billion related to roll-on-roll-off (roro)/ roro passenger and in­land water transport. Of these, 15 projects worth Rs 11 billion have been completed and 32 projects worth Rs 39 billion are under implementation.
