Following clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the newly constructed air traffic control tower (ATC) and technical block at the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport became operational on December 7, 2023. The 25-metre ATC will have a 360-degree view of the airport and its operational area. Further, AAI has built new air traffic services and control tower buildings. State-of-the-art communication, navigation and surveillance facilities, such as very high frequency radios, digital automatic terminal information service and recorders have also been installed. The new voice control system is IP-based, and the new recorder can accommodate additional lines and channels. The new terminal building is currently under construction and spans an area of around 65,155 square metres and is targeted for completion by December 2024. Further, it targets to handle 3,000 passengers during peak hours and has an annual passenger handling capacity of around 8 million.
