Foundation stone laid for new terminal building at Rajahmundry Airport

The foundation stone for the new terminal building at the Rajahmundry Airport was laid on December 10, 2023. The terminal building will be built on 17,029 square meters (sq m), which is 400 times of the existing terminal building, taking the total area post expansion to 21,094 sq m. The expansion entails a cost of Rs 3.5 billion. The building would be able to cater to 2,100 passengers during peak hours and 3 million passengers annually. The airport would have 28 check-in counters, three aerobridges, a parking area for approximately 600 cars, etc. Further, the new terminal targets a 5-star GRIHA rating, with salient features including ensuring thermal insulation and energy efficiency, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting systems, sewage treatment plants, and others. Rajahmundry currently handles 126 weekly flight movements and is connected to Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru.
