About 82.5 per cent of construction work has been completed on the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. The Government of Maharashtra (GoM) has set the deadline to complete the project by end January 2024, but, the project is likely to partially complete by mid-February 2024. Eventually it is expected to be operational entirely by mid-2024.
The project involves construction of a 10.58 km long eight-lane coastal road which will run parallel to the existing stretch going from Nariman Point to Kandivali in Maharashtra. It will start from Manora Guest House opposite Mantralaya and progress through a tunnel between the NCPA and Air India building. It also involves construction of 2.07 km long twin tunnels. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is implementing the project on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode in four packages from Priyadarshini Park-Baroda Palace to Princess Street Flyover. The revised cost of the project is Rs 127.21 billion.
