The Government of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the Uddanam drinking water project in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on December 14, 2023. The scope of project included drawing water from the River Vamsadhara at the Hiramandalam reservoir, supplying water through 1,200 km of pipeline network, intake wells, overhead tanks, reservoirs, pumping station near Hiramandalam reservoir and construction of water treatment plant having capacity of 84 million litres per day (mld) in Meliyaputti. The project will provide drinking water to 807 villages across Kavithi, Kanchili, Sompeta, Ichchapuram, Mandasa, Vajrapukottur, and Palasa mandals. It has been executed by Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 7 billion.
