Trial run commenced on 1.18 km stretch between S.N. Junction and Thripunithura under the Kochi Metro Rail Project-Phase II on December 7, 2023. Construction work for the project is likely to complete by November 21, 2026. Meanwhile, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has initiated preliminary discussion with the rolling stock manufacturers for additional trains for Phase II.
The project involves the development of an 11.17 km long metro rail network from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to Infopark via Kakkanad as an extension of Phase I in Kerala with an investment of Rs 19.57 billion.
