The union minister for ports, shipping, and waterways has reported that there are six port clusters, of which, four will be developed as mega ports by 2047. These four port clusters are the Cochin-Vizanjam Port cluster, Galathea South Bay Port, Chennai-Kamarajar-Cuddalore Port cluster, Paradip, and other non-major port clusters with a capacity of more than 300 million tonnes per annum (mtpa); the other two are the Deendayal and Tuna Tekra Port cluster, Jawaharlal Nehru and Vadhavan Port cluster with a capacity of more than 500 mtpa. The ‘Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision, 2047’ includes steps to be undertaken by the major ports for augmentation of capacity and improving infrastructure.
