RVM at Mumbai Airport

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai has reportedly recycled 8,890 used bottles through the reverse vending machines (RVMs) at the airport in ten months, up to October 2023. The two RVMs were installed at P4 and P6 at terminal 2 in January 2023. Three additional RVM units are to be installed at the airport in November 2023. Each RVM can reportedly process up to 450 bottles an hour, and 70 per cent of the waste can be compressed enabling easier transportation to the recycling centres. It hence aids in saving resources, reducing the transportation and logistics costs, and in reducing emissions. The airport has also adopted various other green initiatives including solar energy, waste recycling, and others. The RVMs are also user friendly with a 16-inch touch screen for user guidance. They are also patented and spill-proof.
