Centre lays foundation stone for mega container terminal project at Tuna-Tekra in Gujarat

The central government laid the foundation stone for the mega container terminal project at Tuna-Tekra in Gujarat’s Kandla Port on October 17, 2023. It is being implemented by Hindustan Infralog Private Limited, a jo­int venture (JV) between DP World Limited and National Investment and Infrastructure Fund. The project involves the development of a container terminal at Tuna Tekra on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis under the PPP mode at an estimated cost of Rs 42.44 billion, for a concession period of 30 years. The capacity of the terminal will be 2.19 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The berth shall be designed to handle vessels of up to 6,000 TEUs of capacity, and up to 14 metres of draft. The construction period will be 36 months. It is being implemented under the National Infrastructure Pipeline.
