IR registers 8.47 per cent increase in freight loading in October 2023

Indian Railways (IR) has transported 887.25 million tonnes (mt) freight in the April-October period of 2023-24. This is 31.61 mt higher as compared to the freight loading in the corresponding period in 2022-23. The national transporter has earned freight revenue to the tune of Rs 959.29 billion in April-October period of 2023-24, 3.88 per cent higher as compared to the freight earning in the corresponding period in 2022-23 (Rs 923.45 billion).
On a monthly basis, the freight loading stood at 129.03 mt in October 2023, 8.47 per cent higher than the freight loading in October 2022 (118.95 mt). The freight revenue in October 2023 stood at Rs 142.31 billion, 6.57 per cent higher than the freight loading in the corresponding period in 2022. During October 2023, IR achieved loading of 64.82 mt coal, 14.81 mt iron ore, 5.74 mt pig iron and finished steel, 6.32 mt cement (excluding clinker), 4.77 mt clinker, 3.62 mt foodgrains, 5.72 mt fertilisers, 4.35 mt mineral oil, 7.15 mt containers and 8.55 mt balance other goods.
