Indian Major ports registers 2.4 per cent increase in cargo traffic during April-September FY 2024

During April-September FY 2024, the Indian major ports handled 393.52 million tonnes (mt) of cargo traffic, compared to 384.3 mt in the corresponding period of FY 2023, registering a growth of 2.4 per cent. Port-wise, the Paradip Port handled the maximum cargo at 69.15 mt during April-September FY 2024 with a share of 17.6 per cent followed by Deendayal Port (16.5 per cent) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (10.7 per cent). The overseas cargo handled at the major ports increased by 2.3 per cent from 296.33 mt during April-September FY 2023 to 303.08 mt during April-September FY 2024. Meanwhile, the coastal cargo handled at the major ports increased by 2.8 per cent from 87.97 mt during April-September FY 2023 to 90.44 mt during April-September FY 2024.
