Foundation stone laid for Ambala airport

The foundation stone for a domestic airport at Ambala Cantonment was laid on October 15, 2023. The airport is to be established alongside the Air Force Station, on 20 acres. The required land was acquired from the Ministry of Defence at a cost of around Rs 1.33 billion. The airport is expected to spur economic activity and improve connectivity, in addition to possibly supporting the Chandigarh airport. The existing runway of the Ambala Cantonment Airport Station would be used to land commercial aircraft once the airport is completed. The passenger terminal is expected to come up within six months and would have the capacity to cater to a minimum of 200 passengers at a time. Permission to operate flights to destinations like Srinagar, Varanasi, Jaipur, Amritsar, and Delhi has been applied for. Once operational, it also aims to cater to passengers from western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab.
