The Government of Assam inaugurated the Leechubagan reservoir under the South Guwahati west water supply project on October 15, 2023. The Leechubagan distribution network is expected to provide water supply to 20,000 households. The entire project will be commissioned in three phases along with the Ramsahill reservoir zone. The project is being implemented by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority and involves the construction of a raw water abstraction intake point at the west Kamakhya area; a water treatment plant (WTP) having a capacity of 107 million litres per day (mld) at Sadilapur near Saraighat bridge; and a pump house in Assam at an estimated cost of Rs 4.07 billion.
