IR carries 758 mt freight in first half of 2023-24

In the April-September period of 2023-24, the national transporter carried a freight loading of 758.20 mt. This is 21.52 mt higher than the freight loading in the corresponding period in 2022-23 (736.68 mt). Indian Railway (IR) earned Rs 816.97 billion against Rs 789.91 billion earned in the previous year, an improvement of approximately Rs 27.06 billion. During September 2023, the originating freight loading reached 123.53 mt, against a loading of 115.8 mt in September 2022, which is an impro­vement of approximately 6.67 per cent over the previous year. Freight revenue of Rs 129.57 billion was recorded in September 2023 as compared to Rs 123.33 billion freight earnings in September 2022, reflecting an improvement of about 5.06 per cent.
