SMP Kolkata signs MoU to connect NE states

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMP, Kolkata) and Saif Powertec Limited, Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding on September 25, 2023 to facilitate the establishment of a new multimodal transport route. The transport route will connect SMP, Kolkata to Northeast India via Chattogram Port, Mongla Port, Ashuganj River Port, or Pangaon Inland Container Terminal. Moreover, a steady liner service of containerised vessels on riverine and sea routes, duly equipped with efficient handling facilities at the ports, will encourage traders/cargo owners of both India and Bangladesh to avail the waterways on a regular basis.
