Centre works on a new legislative framework for ports

The centre is working on a new legislative framework for ports. This will provide transparency in port tariffs, revamp penalties for offences, replace over 110 years old rules with more than 15 sets of rules. The proposed Indian Ports Bill for 2023 is intended to replace the Indian Ports Act from 1908. The aim is to grant authority to the Maritime States Development Council and encourage coordinated planning between states and the Centre regarding port development.
