Rajkot airport commences flight operations

Flight operations at the new Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat commenced on September 10, 2023. Equipment from the old airport were shifted to the new one as the old Rajkot Airport was shut down by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) post the operationalisation of the new greenfield airport. The new airport is located 30 km away from Rajkot city, on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway. A bus service connecting ST bus stop and the new airport was also introduced by the state government for the convenience of the passengers. The terminal building has a built-up area of 23,000 square meters, and a capacity to handle up to 1,800 passengers simultaneously. The new integrated terminal building also adheres to the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA-4) and has adopted different sustainability innovations including double-insulated roofing systems, and skylights, among others.
