The Union Government has laid the foundation stone for Bina refinery expansion in Bina, Madhya Pradesh. Bharat Oman Refineries Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is planning to expand the Bina refinery 7.8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 12 mtpa along with setting up ethylene cracker and associated units and 1,200 ktpa ethylene and propylene based petrochemical units for its diversification to petrochemicals in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It entails an investment of Rs 490 billion. These chemicals are essential for numerous industries including textiles, packaging and pharmaceuticals among others. Moreover, the project is likely to reduce the country’s reliance on imports and aligns with Prime Minister’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
