Shivamogga airport starts operations

The Shivamogga Airport in Karnataka began commercial flight operations on August 31, 2023. The IndiGo flight from Bengaluru was the first aircraft to land at the airport. This would be the airline’s sixth destination in Karnataka. The airport was inaugurated on February 27, 2023, and was developed at a cost of approximately Rs 4.5 billion. The passenger terminal building has the capacity to handle 300 passengers per hour. Repor­tedly, the airport would be the first to be run by the state government. It is the ninth domestic airport in the state.
