Railway Board modifies policy for level crossing

According to a modification in the policy for level crossings on new lines, gauge conversion, doubling and multi-tracking projects issued by the Railway Board, no level crossings will be included in the planning of a new railway line project. Any crossings already approved in ongoing projects should be removed. Further, all railway zones are required to accordingly prepare detailed project reports based on the new guidelines. With regard to projects currently in progress, the directive states that in order to eliminate level crossings, a road over-bridge or a road under-bridge can be incorporated by adjusting the cost estimates of the ongoing project, if the terrain allows for construction without significant elevation changes.
