New Rajkot International airport commences flight operations

Flight operations at the new Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat commenced operations on September 10, 2023. Equipment from the old Raj­kot Airport was shifted to the new greenfield airport after the Airports Authority of India shut down the facility. The new airport is located 30 km from Rajkot city on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway. A bus service connecting the S.T Bus Stand and the new airport was also introduced by the state government for the convenience of passengers. The terminal building has a built-up area of 23,000 sq. m, with a capacity to handle up to 1,800 pa­ss­engers simultaneously. The new integrated terminal building also adhe­res to the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment and has adopted various sustainability innovations including double-insulated roofing systems, and skylights, among others.
