In a recent development, India and Russia discussed widening maritime cooperation, including the possibility of using new transport corridors such as the Northern Sea Route and the Eastern Maritime Corridor (EMC) between Vladivostok and Chennai. The EMC is estimated to reduce the time required to transport cargo between Indian and Russian ports of the Far East by up to 16 days and will enable Russian shipments to reach India in 24 days instead of over 40 days. Moreover, both countries have agreed to train Indian seafarers in Polar and Arctic waters at the Russian Maritime Training Institute, named after GI Admiral Nevelsky, which is equipped with simulator training facilities in Vladivostok, Russia.
