CCI approves Air India and Vistara merger

On September 1, 2023, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) app­ro­ved the merger of Tata SIA Airlines Limited into Air India. Follo­wing the merger, the Vistara brand will be retired, and the combined entity will retain the Air India brand. Vistara is a 51:49 joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, and Air India is fully owned by Tata Sons. Reportedly, SIA will invest Rs 20.59 billion in Air India as part of the merger transaction. Following the consolidation, they will hold a 25.1 per cent shareholding in Air India. Additionally, the merger of the low-cost carriers Air India Express (AIX) and AIX Connect (AirAsia India) is already in process.
