About 95 per cent of construction work completed under Mullaperiyar drinking WSS

About 95 per cent of construction work under the Mullaperiyar drinking water supply scheme (WSS) has been completed. Currently, 83 km out of 93.3 km of pipeline has been laid and the rest is expected to finish soon. The scheme envisages drawing 125 million litres of water from the Lower Camp hydro-power station to areas under the Madurai Corporation through a 143 km pipeline. The project would prevent illegal tapping, evaporation and seepage loss. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 16.86 billion. The Asian Development Bank is expected to provide funds for the project under the Tamil Nadu Urban Flagship Investment Program – Tranche II.
