The Uttarakhand cabinet approved a proposal to increase the runway of the Pantnagar airport from 1,372 meters to 3,000 meters on August 24, 2023. This is in line with the airport’s aim to develop into an international airport. This requires a total of 804 acres of land and adjoining lands belong to various government departments. Compensation to the departments would be decided by a panel, and the project is expected to be completed in three years. Reportedly, the land after acquisition would be allotted to the Civil Aviation Department of Uttarakhand, which would then provide it to AAI.
