Operations at the new terminal building at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair began on August 21, 2023. It is built at a cost of around Rs 7.08 billion and can handle 1,200 passengers during peak hours and 4 million passengers annually. It has a total built-up area of 40,837 square meters (sq m) and 100 per cent natural lighting. 10 aircraft can be parked at the new apron. Also, 28 check-in counters, 12 immigration counters, three passenger boarding bridges, and four conveyor belts are equipped at the three-storey building. The IndiGo flight from Chennai was the first to land, followed by the Air India flight from Chennai.
