Operational MRT network expands
- The operational urban metro rail transit (MRT) network has increased significantly, from 38 km in 2002 to 872 km at present, recording a CAGR of 16 per cent over the past two decades.
- The highest growth was registered during 2017-19, with metro stretches spanning about 360 km being completed.
Elevated structures dominate
- Till 2005, about 60 per cent of the metro network was elevated. This trend has continued since then, with elevated structures constituting around 80 per cent of the total network.
- The share of underground structures is around 19 per cent at present. At-grade structures continue to constitute less than 10 per cent of the overall metro network.
