On August 24, 2023, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the transportation of petroleum products of the Assam based company to the Bangladesh. NRL envisages to export around 0.2 million metric tonnes of products per annum to Bangladesh through Jogighopa jetty, after the commissioning of its expanded refinery and petrochemicals plant. Currently, the company is implementing a project for the expansion of its refinery from three to nine million metric tonnes of products per annum at an approved cost of more than Rs 280 billion, which is scheduled for completion by early 2025.
