Growth in shipping fleet size
- The total number of vessels in the country recorded a CAGR of 4.78 per cent between 2003 and 2022.
- Currently, the country has a fleet size of 1,529, comprising 1,039 coastal and 490 overseas vessels.
Cargo movement through IWT
- Cargo traffic through inland waterways transport (IWT) recorded a CAGR of 7.4 per cent during 2003-04 and 2022-23.
- The highest year-on-year growth in cargo traffic through inland waterways was witnessed in 2004-05 at 40.02 per cent, followed by 2016-17 (33.69 per cent) and 2021-22 (30.12 per cent).
