The Centre’s flagship programme, Bharatmala Pariyojana has experienced a substantial increase from their initial cost projections due to construction of wider highways, tunnels, flyovers, and the procurement of more expensive land.
Notably, the expenditure linked to land acquisition has surged by a significant fivefold from the original estimation of Rs 300 billion. Moreover, the inflationary pressures have further contributed to the escalation of costs, particularly due to the heightened expenses associated with road construction materials.
