Ministry of Coal announces plans to invest in railway projects

Ministry of Coal is working on the National Coal Logistics Plan to strengthen the country’s energy security and support the vision of a self-reliant nation. To that end, it announced plans to invest Rs 260 billion in railway projects. The idea is to establish comprehensive multi-modal connectivity. The projects will focus on integration of first mile connectivity through strategically positioned railway sidings near coal mines. At present, there are 67 ongoing first-mile connectivity projects across Coal India Limited, Singareni Collieries Company Limited, and Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited. These projects will enhance the capacity by 885 million tonnes.
