The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved seven multi tracking railway projects with an estimated investment of Rs 325 billion on August 16, 2023. These are:
• Gorakhpur Cantt-Valmikinagar rail doubling project involves doubling of a 95 km long existing railway line between Gorakhpur Cantonment and Valmikinagar in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, respectively. It is expected to entail an investment of Rs 12.69 billion.
• Sonnagar-Andal eastern freight corridor project involves construction of a 375 km long freight corridor between Sonnagar and Andal stations in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It is part of the 539-km Dankuni-Sonnagar section (Phase V) of the 1,856-km eastern dedicated freight corridor project. It is expected to entail an investment of Rs 136.06 billion.
• Nergundi-Barang, Khurda Road-Vizianagaram third rail line project involves construction of a third rail line from Cuttack to Vizag. It is expected to entail an investment of Rs 56.18 billion in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
• Mudkhed-Medchal, Mahbubnagar-Dhone rail doubling project involves doubling of the existing 417.88 km long rail line between Mudhkhed and Dhone in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. It is expected to entail an investment of Rs 56.55 billion.
• Guntur-Bibinagar railway line doubling project involves doubling of the existing 239 km Guntur-Bibinagar rail line with an investment of Rs 32.38 billion in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
• Chopan-Chunar rail line doubling project involves doubling of the existing rail line between Chopan and Chunar in Uttar Pradesh.
• Samakhiali-Gandhidham fourth rail line project involves construction of a 53 km long fourth rail line between Samakhiali and Gandhidham in Gujarat. It is expected to entail an investment of Rs 15.71 billion.
