IGGL, GAIL signs agreement to connect North East Natural Gas Pipeline with Barauni-Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline

Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and GAIL (India) Limited have signed an interconnection agreement to connect north east natural gas pipeline to Barauni-Guwahati natural gas pipeline at Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, Baihata and Panikhaiti in Assam to make North East pipeline a part of National Gas Grid. Besides, the interconnecting pipeline will be laid by GAIL at an estimated cost of Rs 151.6 million which will be reimbursed by IGGL. The North-East natural gas pipeline grid involves development, operation and maintenance of 1,656 km long natural gas pipeline connecting eight states viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura at an investment of Rs 92.65 billion. Currently, the project has achieved physical progress of 75 per cent and phase I is likely to complete by March 2024. It is being implemented by IGGL, a joint venture company of IOCL, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), GAIL, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited.
