Tamil Nadu government may lay foundation stone of Perur desalination plant soon

The government of Tamil Nadu is likely to lay the foundation stone for the Perur desalination plant soon. The project involves the construction of a 400 million litres per day (mld) seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant at Perur in Chennai with operation and maintenance (O&M) of 20 years on design, build and operate (DBO) basis under the public private partnership model. It aims to augment the drinking water supply in the southern and western parts of Chennai with no perennial source of surface water. It is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. It is expected to be completed in 42 months.
