During the April-June period of 2023-24, Indian Railways (IR) freight loading stood at 383.72 million tonnes (mt), an increase of approximately 1.14 per cent over the corresponding period in 2022-23 (279.41 mt). The cumulative freight earning in April-May 2023 period stood at Rs 418.81 billion against Rs 405.68 billion over the last year which is an improvement of approximately 3.2 per cent as compared to the same period in 2022-23. However, the month wise loading witnessed a decline during June 2023. IR originating freight loading stood at 123 mt, 1.94 per cent lower as compared to the corresponding period in 2022-23. Meanwhile, the national transporter has earned freight revenue of Rs 133.18 billion in June 2023 against Rs 134.45 billion freight earnings in June 2022, registering a decline of about 0.95 per cent over last year.
