Resurfacing work on secondary runway of Chennai International Airport likely to complete by September 2023

The resurfacing work on the secondary runway of Chennai International Airport is expected to be completed by September 2023. The airport has two runways comprising of a primary runway which is 12,000 feet (ft) in length and a secondary runway which is 9,000 ft in length. The resurfacing work is ongoing for the secondary runway for removal of the accumulated rubber deposits to ensure safety standards along with a smooth landing of the aircraft. The work was carried out in three phases. Furthermore, the Chennai Airport modernisation project phase II involves the enhancement of runway capacity, apron capacity and terminal building capacity, new international terminal and other facilities at the airport.
