The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has issued a draft paper on reconductoring of transmission lines in inter-state transmission system (ISTS). As per the draft paper, during the period of useful life of transmission system, it would be prudent to allocate the reconductoring work to the existing owner through regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) route. In case the transmission system implemented under tariff based competitive bidding has been handed over after 35 years of operations, fresh bidding may be undertaken for reconductoring and strengthening work. In case the project is already implemented under RTM mechanism then it’s technical upgradation within/ after useful life is to be done under RTM mode. Reconductoring of line and upgradation of bay equipment should be carried out by concerned licensee simultaneously.
