Zonal railways ordered to initiate safety drives

Post the train accident at the Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Balasore district of Odisha, the Railway Board has instructed all zones of IR to initiate safety drives, emphasising on “super check” of signalling systems. Further, all zones are required to record all deficiencies and irregularities during the safety drive and submit reports by June 14, 2023. Zonal railways have been instructed to check all “goomties” (small shop-like places) housing signalling equipment within station limits and ensure that double locking arrangements are in place. It is essential to check that the system of disconnection and reconnection for signalling and telecommunication equipment is being followed strictly as per norms and guidelines.
