Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Limited (HOEC) is planning to drill 18 wells at the Kharsang oilfield in Arunachal Pradesh to increase oil production. According to the field development plan approved by the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, the Kharsang Phase I programme will quadruple the company’s oil output to 1,800 barrels per day in three years. HOEC will have to extend the production sharing contract with the government by 10 years to commence work on the field. Each well would cost about $1.5 million to $2 million.
