Commercial operations likely to begin at Shivamogga Domestic Airport

Commercial operations are expected to begin at the Shivamogga Domestic Airport in August 2023 as the civil works at the airport near completion. Initially, IndiGo will operate its services between Shivamogga and Bengaluru. The project involves the development of a regional greenfield airport near Sogane village in the Shimoga district of Karnataka in an area of 662.38 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 3.84 billion. The project will be developed in two phases – phase I and II. Phase I involves the construction of a runway, taxiway, apron, approach road, peripheral road and compound wall, while phase II consists of construction of a terminal building, air traffic control tower, fire station building etc.
